MARCH 2026 NEWSLETTER #61
Dear Friends
If the seasons were the porridge in the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, then summer is “too hot”, winter is “too cold”, and autumn and spring are “just right”.
There seems to be two main streams of thought about when autumn officially starts: when the Autumn Equinox occurs, which was 23 March this year (Astronomical Autumn), or on the first day of March (Meteorological Autumn). For me, autumn begins when the sun starts creeping onto my patio, reminding me that soon I’ll be basking in the Highveld winter sun on my heat-drenched stoep.

Autumn Wreath
At the March watercolour workshop, we created a beautiful 3-D wreath to celebrate the glorious colours of autumn. The process of leaves changing colours in the fall is called "senescence", but we just say, “the leaves are turning”.
Workshop Photos
We created the 3-D wreath in watercolours, by first painting the various elements, cutting out the leaves, and then assembling them onto the painting of twisted branches.
Check out some of the March Workshop photos below. More photos and feedback on the workshop are available on PHOTOS26.
