Dear Friends
This month’s newsletter is dedicated to my husband John – the love of my life, my rock, my hero – who passed away on 7 June 2024. Nothing pleased him more than when I was creating art and making my “plannetjies” for Open Studios and Workshops. In fact, it took him many years to find us the “perfect” home with a large studio where I could live out my dreams. So, in honour of his precious memory, I will continue with my plans and schedules for the year, with a few changes here and there. See new dates here.
John's Quirky Art
This month I’m featuring some of John’s quirky art creations, which will give you an insight into his "Far Side" sense of humour.
“PUNK TEAPOT” made from glazed ceramic, paint, and a safety pin. A fun piece inspired by the punk rock era of the late 1970s and its associated fashions. The Mohican hairstyle of this androgynous punk forms the handles for both the teapot and its lid, whilst the nose and nostrils create the pouring (or rather, dribbling) spout.
“ELECTROBODS” are made from an assortment of basic electronic equipment. The inspiration for these creatures occurred to John from the rather creepy-crawly-like appearance of the “integrated circuit” component, then developed from that starting point.
PERISCOPE (or WOMAN, if your imagination stretches that far) is a slab-built sculpture decorated with a metallic glaze.
